The purpose of the ECS-Chip product will, once it is developed, provide a solution to monitor the influence of harsh condition effects on electronics, from the corrosion sensor data collected.
Project description
The targeted product in this proposal is a Mission profile sensor for monitoring climate effect on Electronics. Climate exposure caused corrosion failures are prevalent today for all electronics, causing extensive yearly costs, but especially for Power Electronics (PE) systems used as part of energy production/distribution, and a range of other industrial sectors, directly affecting their efficiency. Power electronics systems are integral part of any energy technology today, and its efficient operation determine power generation, conversion, storage, economics and use.
The aim of this proposal is to further develop and demonstrate an existing prototype “Mission profile sensor product” into a commercial product as none exists in the market today. Hence it has significant commercial potential to be used as part of electronic installations, to ensure reliable operation, lower costs, improve product sustainability and safety. For PE systems used for wind turbine or solar energy, key failures are found to be caused by climate conditions (such as humidity and other contaminants), according to a world-wide study conducted by Fraunhofer institute, Germany in collaboration with renewable energy operators.
